Time :1:30 - 5:30pm

Location :Shui Hau Village. Meet up at Shui Hau Village Office.

Fee :$100

Participants capacity :12

The day starts with a guided tour of the 400-year-old coastal village of Shui Hau. During the tour you will discover stories about the village's traditional architecture, rituals, worshipping and ecology. Situated by the mountains, Shui Hau boasts a rich traditional culture where agricultural activity has played an important role for the villagers' livelihoods.

Demonstration of Rice Farming and Re-cultivation Practice

Participants will visit the previous farmlands of Shui Hau where old rice fields have been re-cultivated. A rice farmer will present about the entire growth stage of rice, from sowing to harvest and you will have the fun of planting your own rice plants to bring home.

Sustainable Clam Harvesting

The participants will use the unique tool "chi hau lim" (翅口鐮) traditionally used by Shui Hau villagers and learn how to look for clams. Chi hau lim is a hook connected to a long shaft, which makes the harvest gentle on the marine biodiversity as it leaves little trace in the sand. Traditionally, Shui Hau villagers would go clam harvesting around the 1st and 15th day of the Lunar Month. Join us to rediscover the sustainable clam harvesting method!
